bscdThis album is different from my previous projects in many obvious ways, but most importantly, the songs that appear on my 1st CD release "Fine China" hold an extreme amount of personal meaning to me. Two songs, "Beeswing" and "Windy and Warm" were written by musicians other than myself, Richard Thompson and John Loudermilk, respectively. However, these two songs are personally meaningful in other ways. I expect that the significance one finds in a song is different for everybody, so I will refrain from delving into great detail. However, a little background...

"The Man Who'd Lost His Way" (vocals and guitar by Ben Stull) was inspired by a story I read in the newspaper last September. The story was about a man who found himself in the wrong neighborhood in the wrong time and was thoroughly beaten and mugged. The articles that followed the initial story told of how, after he was finally found in an alley three days subsequent to the mugging, he ironically chose not to go home because his life was in turmoil. Makes you wonder if he was really lost...

"Dear Friend" (vocals and guitar by Ben Stull) is one of the most personal, emotional songs I have ever written. I choose not to go into further detail to keep the meaning personal.

"Windy and Warm" (guitar by Ben Stull) is an instrumental song written by John Loudermilk. This song was very difficult to learn and even harder to perfect and so I almost look at it as a milestone of some sort.

"I Give Up" (vocals and guitar by Ben Stull, cello: Tatyana Ejsmont, additional vocals: Martha Murphy) was written around November of 1996 when I realized that there comes a point where you go your way and everyone else goes their respective ways. The song is a bit more complex than that, but if I elaborate, it will simply add confusion. You get the idea...

"Beeswing" (vocals and guitar by Ben Stull, violins: Martha Murphy, standup bass: Gwen Cassidy) is a very beautiful song written by Richard Thompson. I am a huge Richard Thompson fanatic, and this is, without a doubt, my favorite song of his. No hidden message here, but the beauty lies in it's simplicity.

Thanks to (in no specific order): The entire Stull family, the entire Goodman family, Chad Moore (my home slice), Jerry Kayne, Tony Hoch, Sean Inskip (thanks for the java), Matt Jeans and Eric Lugosch.

Special thanks to Martha Murphy, Gwen Cassidy and Tatyana Ejsmont for all of their effort and expertise.

This album is for my Father, who has provided me with insight and inspiration since day one.
